Middlesex Bindery is a full service bindery located in Lowell, Massachusetts.

All things Covid

May 19: Massachusetts has begun the slow process of opening up with Governor Baker issuing guidance for a 4-phase approach, starting today (or the 25, depending). Mayor Walsh has said Boston will be slower and not re-open for a least a week week after that and continues to be subject to a 6AM-9PM curfew. I, personally, am still subject to the “stay at home” advisory .

From what I can determine right now, I expect to reopen as part of “Phase 2” on or about June 1, depending on how things go but I fully expect it to be later based on what I see out and about in my neighborhood.

When we re-open, I will send an e-mail to everyone with outstanding work. To the extent that I can, I will re-arrange work to try to make any deadlines that have not already passed. There are a few jobs that were due at the end of March, and few that were due for Easter. Obviously, that didn’t happen. I will follow up with each of you to figure out a way forward.

I am still working on protocols to put in place when reopening. One thing I do know, is that hours will change to Monday through Friday from about 9AM to 4PM. As long as Commuter Rail is on a Saturday schedule, I must leave the bindery by 4PM and I will not be going to the bindery on any day the Lowell train has a diversion.

During those hours, you must have an appointment to visit. The reason is twofold: first, to protect the safety of everyone in the building, and second, building management has closed the building to the public currently, so I will need to come let you in anyway. This could change at any time.

I’m also putting together some instructions on how to photograph work for repair. Photographs are a good way for me to give you an estimate on the extent and cost of the repair. To send photos, I strongly urge you to make use of Firefox Send.

Other than that, I’m still working on how to move forward. Please stay safe and healthy.

While waiting to come out of lock down, I did an interview with Stepan Chizhov of iBookbinding.com .

Hours of operation

With the current COVID-19 situation, we can no longer allow walk-ins. When were are finally able to reopen, an appointment will be required to insure only one visitor in the bindery at a time. As far as we are aware, the building will remain locked and closed to the public. Scheduling and appointment will make it possible for us to meet you at the door. Such is the state of the world.
